Towards the end of 2024, MediaTek and Collabora started on a journey to improve upstream support for MediaTek Genio devices. The Genio system-on-chip (SoCs), part of MediaTek's IoT lineup, offer the latest in innovation to manufacturers of consumer, enterprise and industrial devices.
On the Linux kernel side, the first results of that effort have already been merged into the Linux 6.14 kernel version, expected to be released later this March. Bigger updates are expected to land in versions 6.15 and 6.16. Here are some highlights:
Collabora keeps track of the status of the Genio SoCs, and Genio EVKs, kernel hardware enablement on our MediaTek mainline status page.
To provide an easy way to test MediaTek Genio devices, Collabora is creating Debian Trixie based images in both headless, Weston and GNOME desktop variants. Either with a released Linux kernel or with an experimental
Linux kernel containing all the work we are expecting to see trickling into the next few kernel releases.
And last but not least, to ensure we maintain a high quality of all the new code being upstreamed, MediaTek and Collabora have equipped the Collabora laboratory with Genio 350, 510, 700, and 1200 EVKs that are all available for testing via KernelCI now. We are currently using them to run the same suite of boot and basic functionality testing as available for all devices in KernelCI, but as new features land in upstream projects we will extend the testing to make full use of the hardware.
Collabora's MediaTek enablement will be on full display during Embedded World 2025, March 11-13, at our Booth (4-404). Come visit to find out more and discuss with the engineers working together with MediaTek!

Really loving this work that has been done in collaboration already. Thanks to your guys' work I'm able to integrate Genio into the Armbian Build Framework and use U-Boot with SD Cards on Radxa Nio-12L enabling simple EFI boot workflows. Looking forward how this platform is going to develop
